Week of October 15, 2018

Here’s what happening at Overlook this week:

  • PTO MEETING: This Tuesday October 16th at 7 PM in the library.  Come out to hear all about what’s going on at school including a slideshow from Zoom for the Classroom with pictures and videos of the kids having fun.
  • BOOK FAIR: The Overlook Fall Book Fair will take place Oct. 25- Nov. 2. Beginning on 10/25, students will shop at the book fair during their normal library time. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will make wish lists on 10/25 (before their shopping day). Reading night will take place on Wednesday, 10/25.  The proceeds from this fair benefit the PTO, funding things such as new books for the library & other great programs. Volunteers are always needed for set up, clean up, wish-list creation and assistance with shopping.  Please sign up here to volunteer. We are collecting 2L bottles to support our All for Books coin collection drive during this year’s book fair.  The theme this year is Enchanted Forest & each classroom will receive a bottle “gnome” to collect their coins in.  Please send any empty 2L bottles you have in with your child to deliver to the library.  Thanks so much for your help!
  • RITAS COUPON CONTEST: Every student should have received two coupons to Rita’s that can be redeemed at Abington, Glenside, or Elkins Park Rita’s.  The school with the most coupons used by October 21st will win free Rita’s for their Halloween Parties this year.
  • ZOOM FOR THE CLASSROOM: We hope all the students enjoyed the Zoom for the Classroom event this past Friday. There is still time to register and earn prizes like the mood changing pencil, color changing cup, and school coupons through Friday 10/19.  You have until Thursday 10/18 at noon to reach pledge superstar status ($100 in donations) and be invited to painting pumpkins with Mr. Perlman and be entered into additional contests such as winning an Amazon Fire tablet, Karate Birthday Party and other great prizes.   We are $3,500 from our goal of $15,000. If we hit that goal Mr. Perlman and Mrs. Daniels will be sprayed with silly string by the Overlook Staff.  Together we can Zoom to the Top!!
  • GIANT A PLUS REWARDS: The program has started for this school year. If you have never registered your card please visit the website for more information on how it works. Last year we earned $2,000 for our school.
  • CRAYOLA COLORCYCLE: The PTO is excited to announce that this year we will be supporting the Crayola ColorCycle program so we will be collecting your dried-up markers (and highlighters) and sending them off to be recycled. The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and converts those markets to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles. A flyer will be coming home in Family Packets but you can start sending in markers immediately. There is a box in the main lobby for your kids to drop them into. Crayola’s ColorCycle website provides some great activities & crafts that you can do with your kids.
  • BOX TOPS:  Anyone who turns Box Tops in to school by Oct. 26 to be entered to win one of five gift cards to Five Below.  We will be collecting all year with several contests throughout the year.  Just clip and send them in with your child labeled with Student Name and Teacher.  There is a also a Box Tops Bonus App, an amazing app that you can download.  You select what you bought, take a picture of your receipt and submit. Only specific items are available through the app so make sure you check it before you shop!!
    • AMAZON SMILE:  AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that donates 0.5% of your purchases to the Overlook PTO. Click here to register and select Overlook Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)  as your charity.
    • SHOE CARNIVAL:  Shoe Carnival in Willow Grove is offering Overlook PTO 10% of proceeds on all sales all year long when Overlook is mentioned at the register.
